Practical Leadership, Rooted in Values

About Matty

My Story

When I think about the experiences that have shaped me, I think about my family.

My parents have always been my role models. My mother began her career as a science teacher and spent 32 years at the same school, eventually becoming its principal. My father built his career in banking. They were hardworking people who believed in doing their jobs well, taking care of their family, treating people with respect, and remembering where they came from.

They never had to give me big speeches about hard work, perseverance, or responsibility. I saw those values in the way they lived every day.

Those lessons became the foundation of my own journey.

I earned a bachelor's degree in history, economics, and political science, followed by a master's degree in history. But life eventually took me in a very different direction.

I decided to pursue a career in technology. I didn't know then exactly where that decision would take me. I had a lot to learn, and like anyone building a career, I made mistakes, faced challenges, and learned along the way.

Over time, I built a career working in technical roles with multinational companies. I worked closely with customers, solved complex technical problems, took on greater responsibilities, and continued developing my skills through professional certifications in cloud computing and emerging technologies.

Looking back, I am proud of what I have built, but I also know that hard work needs opportunity. America gave me that opportunity — the chance to learn, grow, take on new challenges, and build a career. For that, I will always be grateful.

And today, Antioch is the community I call home.

One of the things I appreciate about Antioch is that we don't all have the same story. Our families come from different backgrounds, and our experiences are different. But when you talk with people, you quickly realize how many of the things we want for our community are shared.

We want safe neighborhoods. We want opportunities for our families. We want local businesses to succeed. We want clean streets and parks, responsible government, and a community we can be proud to call home.

Those shared hopes are part of what led me to public service.

Technology and local government may seem like very different worlds, but I have learned that some principles work almost anywhere: listen carefully, understand the facts, work respectfully with people who may see things differently, find practical solutions, and follow through.

Those are the lessons and experiences I want to bring to serving Antioch.

When I look back at the road that brought me here, I have much to be grateful for.

My parents gave me my values.
Education gave me a foundation.
America gave me opportunity.
My career gave me experience.
And Antioch gave me a community to call home.

Now, I want to give something back — by serving my community and doing my part for the country that has given me so much.
